Our Experts

John Tooker

“I really enjoy meeting the customers and seeing their reactions when they see the final product, their cars transformed.”

What is your role at M. S. Herman & Company?

I am the paint and body work expert. I have 50 years of auto body experience with all types of vehicles.

What do you like about what you do?

I enjoy seeing the cars we get to work on. They come to us in all stages of need and distress. They end up being finished works of art as a result of our talents and expertise.

What was the first car you worked on or restored?

I've worked on restorations and custom cars throughout my career. I painted a number of steam cars and other early cars ranging from a 1900 Skene Steamer and Model Ts, to 1930s era cars. There were even some unusual cars, such as a Pope Hartford and Stanley Mountain Wagon. If I owned a Steamer, I know for sure I’d paint it red!

What was your favorite project at M. S. Herman & Company?

I really enjoyed working on the 1900 Skene. It was very interesting to bring something that old and decrepit back to life.

Do you have a favorite steam car event?

I don’t know if you can call the “reveal” an event, but I really enjoy meeting the customers and seeing their reactions when they see the final product, their cars transformed.

What do you like to do when not working on cars?

I am and avid outdoorsman. I love hunting and fishing, and spending time with my kids and grandkids.
